A letter to the Residents
of Pittsburgh and surrounding Communities:
If you have not already seen us out there, this letter is to
introduce you to the Pittsburgh Paddlefish Women's Dragon Boat Team. We
are a competitive team and our women's boat was recently awarded an
invitation to represent Pittsburgh and the U.S. Eastern Region in the
2008 Dragon Boat Festival in Penang, Malaysia.
For a young team we have already achieved much success and hope that
you will celebrate with us. With this invitation, we are a World Class
Team for a World Class City.
In 2006, three of our women paddlers were invited to the World Dragon
Boat Championship Races, Grand Masters Class, in Berlin Germany. In the
summer of 2007, one of our women received an invitation to represent
the United States Women?s Grand Master Team in the World Cup Dragon
Boat competition in Sydney, Australia. The Grand Masters is a category
for women fifty years and older. For 2008, our entire team won the
invitation to Penang.
Our workouts include
paddling for endurance training, weight training, core-training, and
aerobic training. We have water workouts three times a week on the
Allegheny River during the summer and then train indoors throughout the
winter, still three times a week.
The women on our team are diverse, interesting, and, in a way,
inspirational. They seem to represent the enduring vitality of the City
of Pittsburgh itself.
To send our team to Penang, it is crucial that we have the support from
the community of Pittsburgh. We have launched our Buy a Bench for
the 'Burgh campaign to garner community support for this
opportunity.

provide various other fun incentives for our sponsors.
To fill the boat for the competition in Penang, we must send twenty six
paddlers.

Pittsburgh and why we are the "Most Livable City".
