The Puebloan Faces Panels

Five Faces Figures

Two faces from the Five Faces panel.

In the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park are a number of rock art sites featuring paintings of life-sized anthropomorphic figures. These Faces panels are unique to the region and are similar enough in style to each other that there is a designated Faces Motif Anthropomorphic Style. It is possible the Puebloans were influenced by the neighboring Fremont culture to the north as Fremont figurines have been found that these images resemble.
