BCME PHOTO ARCHIVES: THE EARLY YEARS

The Boulder Creative Music Ensemble began publicly performing in early 1982. One of its most frequent venues was the Boulder Center for The Performing Arts (BCVA). This early publicity photo was taken before a Sunday performance at the BCVA. Isn't there something missing here?

WE appeared at the First Annual Boulder Jazz Festival! It was also the final Boulder Jazz Festival! HERE the band blows "hot" under the lights. The 13 - piece ensemble featured two drummers and three bass players.
IN 1985, the BCME received a grant from the Boulder Arts Council to do a series of jazz repertory concerts in the local parks. WOULD'NT a playground be a good place to "play"? We thought so and proved it in a musical fashion. WAITING out a shower, we take cover by the bathrooms, determined to bring "creative improvised music" to the public.
WHAT happened to the audience?
HERE we're performing at the "famous" (and last) Denver Backyard Jazz Festival hosted by Alex Lemski.
IN performance at the BCVA, probably in 1985 HERE we're performing at the "famous" (and last) Denver Backyard Jazz Festival hosted by Alex Lemski.
WE were one of the LAST bands to play at the "old" Mercury Cafe SITTING IN on congas is an unwelcome, enebriated patron!
